SALT SURF CLUB VOLUNTEERS

PATROL FOR FIRST TIME

A squad of Salt Surf Club’s ardent volunteers will patrol for the first time this Saturday, 24 September, from 8am to 1pm on the beach at Salt.

Salt Surf Life Saving Club is Australia’s newest Surf Club and volunteer members will patrol on weekends and public holidays, working in conjunction with full-time lifeguards that patrol the beach the remaining days of the year.

Each active Salt Surf Club volunteer holds their bronze medallion.

Club Captain David Hoare says with school holidays currently underway and with balmy weather conditions the beach is becoming increasingly busy.

“The volunteers are keen to get out there on Saturday to patrol the beach with the aim of keeping local and visiting beachgoers safe in the water,” he says.

“Signing up as an active member in the Surf Club presents an ideal opportunity to give back to the community and increase health and fitness levels and we are definitely looking for more active members.

“Membership numbers to date have been very encouraging, however with summer on its way we’d love to see more new members who are able to start patrolling shortly.”

The Club offers bronze medallion training for members who are interested in playing an active role in surf life saving, but are not yet qualified.

“We are currently have two groups in training for their medal and, depending on demand, we will keep offering training until we have no shortage of volunteer surf life savers able to patrol,” Mr Hoare says.

Exclusive Club merchandise will be available for purchase by those inaugural members who join before October 1, 2005. Membership forms are available on-line at www.saltslsc.org.au

The establishment of the Salt Surf Life Saving Club and permanent lifeguard facility, within Salt Village, will help ensure residents and visitors enjoy the 1.2km of beach and the two resort pools in Salt Village, making the beach and pools safe for residents and visitors to surf and swim, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year.
